DRUGS raid police smashed their way into another property in the wake of the Tele’s ‘Little Amsterdam’ exposés and recovered a haul of heroin.

A team of specialist officers swooped on a flat in Greenock’s Wellington Street, which has been highlighted as a drugs and anti-social behaviour-blighted hotspot by fed-up law-abiding residents.

It is understood that three people — two men and a woman — were arrested during the undercover intelligence-led operation, which involved the use of a door battering ram.

The Telegraph has been told that heroin was recovered and three people were taken into custody.

It is believed that up £1,000 worth of the Class A drug may have been seized from within the property.

The raid comes after a series of swoops three weeks ago, including one which saw the Tele accompany the police.

The raids have come following our exclusive report on how drug deals were taking place in broad daylight in the Wellington Street and Whinhill Court area.

Frightened local residents — who have dubbed the neighbourhood ‘Little Amsterdam’ — say streams of strangers have regularly appeared at the location to buy ‘wraps’ of heroin.

Chief Inspector Elliot Brown, Inverclyde’s police commander, today confirmed that the latest drug bust was ‘phase two’ of the operation which was launched last month.

Ch Insp Brown said: “It has been done tactically — we wanted to have a period of time between the two parts of the operation.

“We felt we had a significant impact initially and wanted to hold off until we could see how things had developed.” The raid, which was carried out on Tuesday, was on a flat in a block where tenants of Oak Tree Housing Association live.

A spokesman for Oak Tree said: “Oak Tree Housing Association takes any illegal acts perpetrated in its properties very seriously.

“For something as anti-social as drug dealing we would take all appropriate action available to us if a person is found guilty in court.” Tuesday’s police operation comes after three raids on the same day last month. Addresses in Drumfrochar Road and Iona Street were hit.

Another property in Larkfield was also raided after police were granted sheriff court warrants to carry out their various operations.
