TEENY tots are teaming up with their older schoolmates as part of a ‘best buddy’ scheme.

Ardgowan Primary has set up peer learning sessions to forge relationships between different age groups within the school.

Primary ones are teaming up with primary four and primary two, with primary fives and primary threes matched with primary sixes.

Jane Noble, teacher, said: “It’s the first time they’ve met up with their peer buddies, older ones have been teamed up with younger pupils to do various actitivies together.

“It gives them a chance to bond with each other and look out for each other, not only in the classroom but the playground and on the school bus.

“It’s healthy that the older ones can teach the younger pupils — the older pupils also learn from the younger ones too.” She added: “It fosters such a lovely atmosphere.

“We did it last year but this is the first time this year that they’ve been buddied up with a new class.” Every class is also learning French so that they can do something together.

The sessions run every two weeks and in between there is another session named ‘Big Circle’ time, where 12 groups come together from classes throughout the school to talk about how they can make it better.
