Several support unit vans and patrol vehicles are standing guard outside a block of flats in Ashburn Gardens Ambulance and fire crews are also at the scene.
It is understood that they are there because a man has barricaded himself inside a flat.
Police Scotland said they received a report of a 'disturbance' at 10.50am.
A spokesperson added that officers were still on the scene of the siege, with inquiries continuing.
A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call at 11.52am and two fire appliances - one from Greenock and one from Gourock - were mobilised to Ashburn Gardens to assist police with an incident.” The incident remains ongoing.
