A DOUBLE leg amputee fell out of his wheelchair during a cruel assault outside a Greenock town centre pub.

Police say the 56-year-old was deliberately pushed off a step at the Horseshoe Bar, pictured, during an incident on Saturday 4 October.

The disabled man had been smoking a cigarette outside the Kilblain Street building moments before the incident.

Now police are hunting two men who jogged away from the scene leaving the man helpless on the ground.

The shocking incident happened at around 9.30pm at the Kilblain Street building, which faces towards Greenock bus station.

Sergeant Allan O’Hare of Greenock police said: “The victim was in his wheelchair smoking a cigarette at the doorway of the pub when two males came out.

“One of the males intentionally pushed the wheelchair off a ledge there and the man fell out.

“They did not help him.

“They ran down onto West Stewart Street and entered a taxi.” Both men are described as stocky, with dark cropped hair and in their late 30s or early 40s.

The man who pushed the wheelchair was wearing a blue zipped top.

The victim, from Branchton, is not believed to have suffered any serious injuries.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Police Scotland on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
