HISTORY detectives are on a case to uncover stories lurking behind closed doors.
A group of volunteers at the Dutch Gable House have been photographing and cataloging picture tiles that decorate tenement entrances on the Esplanade and elsewhere in Inverclyde.
Many of the tiles tell a story and give an interesting insight in the district’s past.
Enthusiasts, right, are keen to keep a record of them for posterity.
Kay Clark, heritage co-ordinator with Inverclyde Community Development Trust, said: “Some of the volunteers have looked at tiles in flats at Sandringham Terrace on the Esplanade which tell stories about the Clyde and the area.
“They have also been looking at closes with stained glass windows.”
