The A8 was shut at Pottery Street, after massive tailbacks built up on the route during rush hour.

It did not reopen until just before 10.30am.

The flooding was widespread - with the other end of the district affected too.

Vehicles attempting to go from Greenock past Spango Valley were diverted up Auchmead Road by police.

Major delays were caused by flooding right along the A78 past Inverkip.

Drivers were then delayed again by flooding which stretched for miles from the start of the former IBM site to the traffic lights at Branchton rail station.

Flooding hotspots were once again under water - with the West Station deluged yet again.

This brought the closure of the train station, bringing misery for rail commuters.

Rail services between Glasgow Central and Wemyss Bay were cancelled, and those between Glasgow Central and Gourock were ending at and starting back from Port Glasgow.
