YOUNGSTERS across Inverclyde will have the chance to prove they have an appetite to eat healthily and exercise more – thanks to the return of popular fitness classes.

Inverclyde Leisure have launched active children eat smart (ACES) for 2014, a healthy eating club delivered in partnership with Inverclyde Community Health and Care Partnership and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

It is a free 12-week programme designed to assist children and families to shed some pounds, or to prevent any further weight gain.

The classes also offer participants the chance to try out sports, activities and take part in healthy eating cooking demonstrations.

Carole Stewart, a live active advisor for Inverclyde Leisure, pictured right with Gillian Hughes from Inverclyde Active Schools, said: “The programme will enable participants to try new ways of getting active and how to enjoy healthy eating.

“Each session has been designed with practical solutions in mind to help families make changes and become more active and eat more healthily.

“Sessions involve games and activity sessions including badminton and fun circuits. There are also practical food sessions too where you can make your own healthy pizza or cooked breakfast.” The programme starts on Monday 17 November at Greenock Sports Centre from 7 to 8.30pm.
