BLOOMING brilliant gardeners from across Inverclyde were recognised for their horticultural skills at a glittering awards ceremony.
The red carpet was rolled out at Greenock Town Hall for the annual Gardenfest Awards bash, where green-fingered residents received prizes for their efforts.
One of the big winners on the night was David Dow, who scooped an array of awards including Best Garden in Inverclyde as well as Best Garden in Gourock and Best Garden in ward five.
The panel of distinguished judges, who spent the summer visiting gardens right across the district, were also impressed by May Mitchell’s entry.
She walked away with the Best Garden in Greenock prize, together with the Best Garden in Ward three title and the Best Containers and Baskets award.
Meanwhile, the Best Newcomer and Judges’ Discretionary Award went to Joe Kelly.
Provost Robert Moran congratulated the winners.
He said: “I was thrilled to be part of such an enjoyable event which showed us Inverclyde at its best.
“Inverclyde residents once again surpassed themselves in the quality of their entries and I am sure we all picked up tips and ideas for our own gardens.
“I would like to thank Cardwell Garden Centre for their continued support and sponsorship and the judges for their dedication to this event year on year.” Cardwell Garden Centre director Kieran Gallagher was also blown away by the calibre of entries.
He said: “Everyone at Cardwell was highly impressed with the outstanding variety of gardens on show.
“We are delighted to continually support this great community event and are looking forward to next year’s already.” See today's Tele for full pictures and results.
