DISAPPOINTMENT turned into delight for little Calum Forbes — when he was allowed to perform at the music festival despite missing his competition.

The 10-year-old Moorfoot Primary pupil was due to perform in the brass solo class at 9.30am yesterday morning.

But due to the snowy conditions, his teachers decided it was too risky to take the children and they were forced to wait until later in the morning to travel to the event.

When Calum eventually arrived at the town hall two hours later, the kind organisers cheered him up by giving him the chance to perform.

The primary six pupil told the Tele: “I was a bit upset.

“But I was given the chance to do my solo.

“Before I went on stage there was an announcement that there was going to be a special performance by me because I couldn’t get there on time due to the bad weather.

“I was really happy to have the chance to play and I’m also getting a special mention certificate.” Acting depute head teacher Jane Cowan says the whole school is proud of Calum.

She said: “We are absolutely thrilled that he got the opportunity to perform because he was very disappointed that he couldn’t make it.

“A flurry of snow came on here about 9am. As I was going to be taking them down, I went out to check the road conditions and I heard reports of cars sliding everywhere so due to safety reasons the decision was made not to go and the parents were contacted.

“But at 10.15am we took the car out again to see what it was like and the roads were clear so we took them down.” There was further delight for Calum as he also got the chance to perform with his classmates in the brass ensemble competition, where they scooped second place.
