THE campaign to save Greenock’s yellow house is accelerating as a protest is organised and a Port businessman dishes out lemon coloured car stickers in support of the property’s owners.

George Anderson, who owns Lighthouse Tyres, spent hours printing off hundreds of car stickers which state ‘I support the yellow house’.

Now he is giving them out for free to drivers across Inverclyde ahead of Friday’s demonstration.

He told the Telegraph he felt compelled to support the Varese family after Inverclyde Council ordered them to repaint their Esplanade property.

Planners say its yellow colour is not in keeping with the west end conservation area.

George said: “I strongly support the yellow house.

“I think it’s crazy they have been refused permission.

“It’s their house and they should be able to do what they want.

“I would paint my van yellow in support of it if I could but I decided to print car stickers out instead.

“I already had a printing machine so I bought some yellow vinyl and have spent hours each night printing out the stickers.

“I want to do my bit to help so anyone who would like a free sticker can pop up to my premises and get one.” Meanwhile, over 100 yellow house supporters are also expected to attend a ‘peaceful protest’ outside the house on Friday at noon.

The event has been arranged by campaigners on Facebook, with people being asked to go along dressed in yellow.

A song about the yellow house saga has been watched thousands of times on YouTube.

The Varese family spent £3,000 painting their home and may yet appeal to the Court of Session over the council’s decision.
