TWO Greenock music graduates are preparing for the biggest gig of their lives DJing alongside four international dance acts — including chart-toppers Bingo Players.

Gourock man John ‘Fitzy’ Fitzpatrick and his friend John ‘Simy’ Sims, who is from Ardrossan but studied here, are in a spin over an event at The Arches nightclub in Glasgow in a fortnight’s time.

It will see them share the bill with a host of big-name acts.

The former James Watt College sound production students have landed a place on the Colours May Bank Holiday show on Saturday 2 May.

The duo have been making a name for themselves in recent years and played on the bill of a gig with radio DJ and Morton fan George Bowie.

Fitzy is also no stranger to big-name acts after opening the show for Miami-based DJ and music producer Borgeous during the Scottish leg of his world tour last year, shortly after he topped the UK singles chart with a song featuring Tinie Tempah.

But he says The Arches gig will eclipse that and cannot wait to get on stage.

Fitzy, 20, said: “This is our biggest gig yet.

“The Borgeous gig was unreal but because this is The Arches it’s a different kettle of fish. There will be a big crowd and as a venue I go to and know well it will be amazing to see it from the other side.” The DJ pair met while studying at the former James Watt College in Greenock and reunited on the west of Scotland DJ circuit a few years ago in the most unlikely of circumstances.

Faced with a technical malfunction, the pair had to do a ‘back to back’ set – but it proved a dancefloor smash.

They decided to try it again, this time as a proper duo, and once again it went down well with music fans.

Along the way they have built up contacts, including with well-known Glasgow DJ Paul Zitkus, who helped pave the way for the Arches gig.

Fitzy, also runs the Bounce Greenock dance night at Word Up, said: “I can’t wait for it.

“When the first name came out and it was Bingo Players, then Headhunterz and Timmy Trumpet, we couldn’t actually believe it until our names were on the flyer alongside theirs.” Tickets are on sale now online from tickets-scotland.com or by contacting Fitzy or Simy on Facebook.
