THE spectacular Mari-Cha III superyacht is on a visit to Greenock’s James Watt Dock.

The sleek 44 metre craft was built in 1997 and she’s believed to be the fastest of her type and size in the world, achieving speeds of up to 17 knots.

She was built to perform a dual role of luxurious superyacht and racing machine after 10 months of research and development. She became the new Atlantic record-breaker in October 1998 when she sailed from New York to southern England in only eight days, 23 hours, 59 minutes and 41 seconds — averaging 14 knots.

Mari-Cha lll was the 1997 winner of the Superyacht Society’s award for the Best Sail Yacht over 36 metres, as well as the award for the Best Sail Yacht Interior.

The vessel arrived in town this week from Tobermory.
