A FAMILY sail ‘doon the water’ to Rothesay raised more than £1,000 in memory of a special wee boy.
Staff from Serco Marine Services, based at the Greenock Harbour, hosted the trip on SD Oronsay, with around 60 employees and their families enjoying the day.
It was extra special for one couple, Nicola and Robert Clark, who have been fundraising since they lost their 18-month-old son Euan to a rare heart condition in 2012.
Along with their son Lyle, they joined Euan’s grandfather George Lewis, who is a seaman with Serco, on the boat trip.
After all the families were piped onboard by Paige Cauley, the vessel sailed down to Rothesay for the day where the passengers went to the Highland Games and enjoyed an open top bus tour. Chief engineer Billy McFarlane said: “It was fantastic. We had a lovely day.
“We had a barbecue on the way home and after it was cleared away, we were out on the afterdeck dancing. It was very enjoyable and we raised a lot of money.” A raffle and collection were made on board, raising £1,070 which was split equally between Euan’s Cause (Yorkhill Hospital) and Help for Heroes. The organisers would like to thank to Phil Ireland, Paige Cauley, QHM Faslane, Althams Ship Chandlers, Inverclyde Embroidery, Stevie and his staff at Rothesay Harbour and everyone who contributed.
