A MAN was rushed to hospital last night after he was seriously assaulted outside a Greenock pub-restaurant.
Police say the incident happened just before 7pm after an argument broke out between two groups of people in the Tail O’ The Bank pub.
Staff asked the people to leave but the situation escalated outside the pub and a 21-year-old man was attacked.
Four police vehicles and an ambulance rushed to the scene, which was quickly cordoned off, and the victim was taken to Inverclyde Royal where he received stitches for a neck injury.
Detective Constable Jackie Docherty of Greenock CID is appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
She said: “A group of about four people and another group of about 15-20 people started arguing in the pub.
“They were asked to leave but the situation escalated outside.
“A 21-year-old man was seriously assaulted and taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital where he received stitches for a neck injury before being released.
“It was lucky that he just had to get stitches.
“We believe there was a weapon involved.” Anyone with information is asked to phone Greenock police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
