TESCO’S Port Glasgow store did their best to cheer up customers on ‘Blue Monday’ by giving away gift cards.
‘Blue Monday’ is billed as the most depressing day of the year due to a combination of Christmas debt, back to work blues and the winter weather.
So customers received surprises throughout the day, with people going through checkouts being selected randomly to win £20 in Tesco gift cards.
Customers were also invited to step inside a ‘cash cube’ booth in which tokens were being blown around them.
They had to catch as many as possible for the chance to win £10, £20 or £100 in gift cards.
A total of £1,150 gift cards were given out to over 80 lucky customers during the day.
Store manager, Russell Houston, said: “Our Blue Monday giveaway was a light-hearted way to interact with our customers and lighten the mood on what is supposedly the most depressing day of the year.
“Every half-hour a till was randomly called, and the shopper being served at that time won a gift card. I think we ended Blue Monday in Port Glasgow on a happier note.”
