PERSISTENCE paid off for a Port Glasgow finance manager who won over £5,000 in a radio competition.

Patrick Docherty, who works for Union Projects in Kelburn Business Park, scooped £5,589 after playing Clyde One’s ‘On the Money’ competition.

The 32-year-old, said it felt ‘surreal’ to scoop the cash.
He said: “I don’t usually win things like this.

“I’ve tried Clyde 1 competitions enough times in the past, I even got through on the £5k Minute once before but only got 6/10 right.

“So to win this amount is amazing.”

Patrick is now planning the family holiday of a lifetime to Mexico, with his delighted wife and two stepchildren.

He added: “As soon as I won I had about 25 different calls with people saying we should catch up for a pint!

“It’s money we’ve not accounted for so we’re going to enjoy it a bit.

“We’ll definitely go on a holiday, probably a cruise to Mexico with my wife and stepkids as we’ve never been there before.

“After I’d won the money, I took my wife on a shopping trip, had a nice meal and went to the cinema.

“We are simply going to enjoy spending it as it’s money we never had in the first place.”

The competition invites listeners to call in and guess a cash prize amount in pounds and pence.

If their guess is wrong they are told if the correct figure is higher or lower than their guess – until somebody gets it exactly right and walks away with the cash.

Radio presenter Grant Thomson congratulated Patrick.

He said: “We’d all like to say a huge congratulations to Patrick for being On The Money on Clyde 1.

“The closer we got to the exact amount the more tense it became however we’re just thrilled the prize was won by a big Clyde 1 fan and we wish Patrick and his family a brilliant and memorable holiday when it comes.”
