PUPILS at a Port school kept their cool as they received a special visit from some elite professional ice hockey players.

Tyler Scofield and Robert Lepine, who play for the Braehead Clan, popped into Newark Primary School to meet some of their biggest fans.

Pupils Cerys Ball, Emily Rodgers and Ellis Guthrie, who are all Clan season ticket holders, could not contain their excitement as they came face-to-face with their heroes, who star at the Braehead Arena.

Ellis said: “I’m really excited because Tyler is my favourite player.”

Tyler, 33, and Robert, 25, who are both from Canada, said they were delighted to meet their young fans.

Speaking to the Tele, Tyler said: “It was really good fun to visit the school.

“We know we have some great fans here and wanted to give them a nice surprise.

“We gave the children a presentation to introduce them to the game, which they all seemed to enjoy.”

After speaking to the children, the dynamic duo took time to sign autographs for everyone at the school.

Gillian Rodgers, senior clerical worker at the school and mum to Clan superfan Emily, said the children absolutely loved meeting the players.

She said: “It was lovely of them to take time out of their busy schedule to come down and visit the kids.

“It’s great to encourage the children to get involved in sports, especially something other than football.

“Although that is a great sport, it’s good for young people to learn there is a variety of sports and find out about those too.

“The children were really enthusiastic about the visit and the whole school were given free tickets to go to see the Clan’s game on February 17, which was a lovely gesture.”

Community police officer John Jamieson also popped into the school to meet the players.
