A PORT Glasgow student hopes a book he is publishing is distributed in schools throughout the area.

Jonathan McIntosh, a postgraduate publishing student at Edinburgh Napier University, is part of a team which are releasing a teenage fiction anthology called “Ah Dinnae Ken’, which focuses on Scottish identity today.

The 21-year-old from Lilybank Road hopes to give the book out to as many high school pupils in the area as possible — but needs help from sponsors.

He told the Tele: “We are publishing a short story anthology which is not political, it’s more light hearted and asks the question, ‘what does it mean to be Scottish?’, which is quite a hard question to answer.

“So we want to get it out to as many schools as possible.” Award-winning Greenock author Cathy MacPhail, pictured with Jonathan, will feature in the book.

Jonathan added: “We have nine authors involved, including Cathy, who was really keen.

“It’s a nice touch to have her involved because she is local.

“Our student group is sponsored by the Edward Clark Trust charity, who may give us a £1,000 budget, but in order to print as many as possible, we need help from sponsors.

“Our aim is not to sell the book but to give it out to high schools as a topical text for 12 to 17 year olds.” Anyone who would like more information should visit www.facebook.com/ahdinnaeken or log on to www.publishingdegree.co.uk/student-projects/ah-dinnae-ken/
