FASHION forward pupils are helping their school make a statement this Christmas — by making and selling in-demand bespoke designer bags.

The P7 class at St Francis’ Primary in Port Glasgow have been rushed off their feet with orders for their hessian bags, which have become a must-have on the high street in Inverclyde this festive season.

As part of their enterprise work the group came up with a winning idea which has raised £1,500 for school funds so far.

Their made-to-order bags are now set to go as far afield as Ireland as creativity and business-savvy pupils flourish in the primary school.

Proud head teacher Anne Marie Mullan said: “The pupils have done very well in this one-off project.

“They have worked really well together, that has been the most impressive aspect of it.

“They’ve all had an input into the decisions made, ask each other for advice and have been so enthusiastic.

“We have had fantastic support from parents and friends of the school, it really has proved popular.” Under the stewardship of class teacher Margaret Kelly, the pupils demonstrated a real flair for the fashion world.

They took orders for the hessian bags and then designed each one to meet the demands of the individual customer.

Primary seven pupil Lauren Tracey said: “We really love doing this.

“We take turns at doing everything.

“It has been great.” So far the group has worked their way through producing 300 bags.

The money raised helps towards school funds, allowing extras that help boost learning for all pupils.

Class teacher Mrs Kelly said: “This has been a really special one off enterprise.

“It has been fantastic to be part of.”
