A PORT man suffered a fractured jaw and skull during a ‘vicious and unprovoked’ attack in Kelburn Terrace on Wednesday night.
The 22-year-old was confronted by three or four males who hit him on the head with a piece of wood, causing him to fall to the ground.
They then kicked him about the head.
An ambulance was called and the man was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.
He was taken there due to the possibility that he may have had to be transferred to the Southern General in Glasgow.
The man is in a serious but stable condition.
Police are treating the incident as a serious assault and appealing for witnesses.
Detective Sergeant Gordon Smith told the Telegraph: “The man was walking towards number one Kelburn Terrace and was approached by three to four males, who struck him to the head with a piece of wood, he fell to the ground and they kicked him about the head.
“He suffered a fractured jaw and skull.
“The victim is not in a condition to speak to us at the moment.
“This was a particularly vicious and unprovoked attack on a member of the public.” Anyone with information about this attack should call Police Scotland on 101.
