WINTER skirts, scarves and furry ear muffs were some of the must-have items created by pint-sized fashion designers at a holiday camp.

Talented youngsters aged from eight to 14 attended the October Spooky Fashion Camp at Kilmacolm Community Centre where they sketched out their dream designs before making them by hand.

Organiser Marilyn Thompson who runs The Fashion Class within the village’s community centre said she was taken aback by the high calibre of work on display.

She said: “I’m always genuinely amazed by the work they produce.

“They all get really good instruction and they practise everything to perfection beforehand. What they achieve is fantastic.” Throughout the week, the young designers created an array of trendsetting clothes and accessories.

Marilyn said: “They made their own varsity style rucksacks which they personalised with their initials and wee badges.

“They also made paper bag style winter skirts using different fabrics such as tartan, wool or tweed which they co-ordinated with belts.

“The fluffy ear muffs they made were also excellent, as were the scarfs, gloves and masks.” During the camp, the girls were also tasked with coming up with an outfit made from toilet paper.

Marilyn said: “Some of their creations were fantastic. One girl made a cross over top with layered sleeves which was lovely.

“Another created a corpse bride design with hair accessories which was really impressive.” Marilyn set up the Fashion Class in 2011 to help her teenage daughter Holly and her friends create their own looks.

The classes which take place in Kilmacolm Community Centre have gone from strength to strength with the youngsters holding regular catwalk nights to showcase their designs.
