SCOTTISH Tourism Week was celebrated at Wemyss Bay Holiday Park, which is getting ready for a recruitment drive and the Easter holidays.

The popular facility is run by Parkdean Holidays, and employs up to 75 people during the peak holiday season.

It was visited by Inverclyde MP Iain McKenzie and Greenock & Inverclyde MSP Duncan McNeil, who said they were impressed with the facilities put in place by the owners.

Mr McKenzie said: “It was great to see the substantial investment in the park by the Parkdean group.

“It not only looks like a great place to holiday but also a great place to work, offering many opportunities to develop and acquire employment skills.

“I was very interested to hear about their graduate scheme and the career development of existing and new employees as they start a hiring drive over the coming months.

“Tourism has a part to play in continued business development in Inverclyde, and Wemyss Bay Holiday Park is a shining example of the tourism industry playing its part to the full.” Mr McNeil, who is deputy convener of the Scottish Parliament’s cross-party group on tourism, praised the park as ‘a beautiful location’.

He added: “As well as being a key employer in the community, it also plays an important role in attracting visitors to the area — helping the local economy and the tourism industry.” The park’s facilities include an indoor pool and sauna, a climbing wall, amusement arcade and a new outdoor adventure playground.

Barrie Robinson, Parkdean’s business development manager, said the park makes a significant contribution to the local economy and tourism industry.

He said: “At Wemyss Bay we employ 24 permanent members of staff, three apprentices and up to 75 members of staff during peak season, making us a key employer in the community.”
