I AM sure every reader will have been shocked by the dreadful scenes from Paris last Friday evening.

The event has shocked people across the world and throws open many questions about how to deal with the brand of terrorism that the world now faces.

First and foremost, we need to pass on our condolences to the families of those poor people who were murdered so cruelly on Friday.

I studied in France, in Toulouse and Angouleme, and learned a great deal about living in a country with such a strong multicultural background.

Indeed, many people I studied with came from many differing nationalities.

Studying with many varied people certainly showed me that at the end of the day, we are all Jock Tamson’s Bairns and that every society culture and race has good and bad people.

Thankfully, the overwhelming majority of people are good.

I have been in touch with my French friends, one of whom is now the Major in his village, to pass on my condolences and to let them know that they are in my thoughts.

I know that the French are taking comfort for the solidarity shown to them from others and the last thing that is wanted is for matters to escalate.

Clearly, we should be extra vigilant as these terrorists know no boundaries.

However, we must also remember that the overwhelming majority of people are good and want to live and contribute to society and enjoy life.
