THE UK election has resumed after the Manchester atrocity and I would expect the tone and tenor of the wider campaign to be somewhat different.

More reports making allegations about the bomber are appearing on a daily basis about who knew what, when they knew and the actions that happened or didn’t thereafter. 

This will continue for some time but the fundamental point that we must not forget is that innocent people, many of them young, went to a concert and won’t be returning home.

Serious questions are clearly being asked about the intelligence agencies and past political decisions. 

This will not and should not disappear and this is clearly an example of why international intelligence agencies should co-operate with each other. 

The leaking of the bomber’s name however was appalling as it may hinder this investigation but fundamentally, intelligence gathering and sharing is vital in attempting to deal with this terrorist threat the world faces.

LAST week supporters of Glasgow Celtic FC celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Lisbon Lions.  As readers will know, I am a Morton fan but the recognition of such a tremendous achievement has been richly deserved. 

The BBC documentary last Wednesday evening was outstanding as was the members debate in parliament on Thursday led by my colleague James Dornan MSP.

FINALLY, the Lower Clyde Pipes and Drums reached the final of the recent British Championships. 

They narrowly missed out on a placing but an appearance in the final continues the positive start to the season. Well done.
