MAGIC will be in the air in Inverclyde over the coming days... in more ways than one.

Port Glasgow magician Alan Rorrison is one of the star attractions from tomorrow when the ‘International Brotherhood of Magicians British Ring 25’ materialises before your very eyes at the Beacon.

It’s the first time they have conjured up their annual convention in Scotland for more than 60 years, and it coincides with what could prove to be entrancing opportunities to visit Inverclyde venues which are not normally open to the public.

The annual Doors Open Days on Saturday and Sunday features Cinderella’s Wicked Stepmother being put on trial at Greenock Sheriff Court as part of special children’s activities.

Greenock Players’ actors, who are staging Cinderella as their panto this year, will play the parts of court staff, and youngsters can take on the role of jurors.

This is an imaginative way of introducing children to the court system, something which most people probably never experience unless they are involved in criminal or civil case proceedings in some way.

Other venues include Port Glasgow’s Ferguson Marine shipyard, where all hands are on deck as they prepare to launch the CalMac Glen Sannox ferry on September 21 — the UK’s first to use environmentally friendly liquefied natural gas and marine gas oil.

Meanwhile, Alan is also busy rehearsing his mesmerising tricks and illusions for the Brotherhood event.

He’ll be opening doors to a mysterious world!
