MORTON manager Jim Duffy admits Paul McMullan isn’t the best defensively — but reckons his ability to light up a game makes him a massive attacking asset.
The Celtic loan winger was restored to the starting line-up against Dumbarton at the weekend and gave Sons left-back Mark Docherty a torrid time with his direct style and dribbling.
Although Duffy feels McMullan has taken time to adjust to his responsibilities as a wideman within the Ton system, the Cappielow gaffer says Saturday showed how valuable he can be going forward.
He told the Tele: “I thought Paul did well. We had a chat with him and it’s difficult for him because we play a slightly different system.
“He’s not quite sure defensively, that’s not his strength, but going forward he’s an asset and he lights the game up at times.
“When teams are chasing us, players get tired and there’s space to play in, and players who are quick and direct can give you an out-ball. Paul did that on Saturday.”
