MORTON boss Jim Duffy is delighted that Thomas O’Ware has decided to commit his future to the club by agreeing a two-year deal.

The Tele exclusively revealed yesterday that 23-year-old O’Ware, who can play in defence or midfield, had come to terms on a new Cappielow contract.

Manager Duffy has valued his contributions in his two seasons in charge and viewed tying down the versatile youth system product as a vital part of his plans for the team going forward.

He told the Tele: “Thomas has agreed the deal and we’ll hopefully get the paperwork done this week.

“He’s a young player who has come through the ranks. He showed against Hibs on Saturday and against St Mirren the week before that he can play in midfield, and he can play at the back.

“There have been a lot of big players for us this season and Thomas has been an important player.

“He’s played nearly every game and it’s important we try and get a core of players signed up we feel can build from.

“The fact Thomas’s contract is for two years is important. It gives him a bit of security and also gives the club a bit of stability.

“So it’s absolutely brilliant news.

“I’m delighted and it’s one of hopefully several more to come.

“You never know in football but we want to try and keep the nucleus of the team together.

“We’re starting to make progress in that department and hopefully we can accelerate it now.”
