REJUVENATED Morton midfielder Ross Forbes is delighted to be putting down roots at Cappielow after recently signing a two-year contract extension with the club.

Following his release by Motherwell in 2012, Forbes had relatively short stints with Partick Thistle and then Dunfermline Athletic.

But since signing for the Ton in January 2015, he has become a mainstay of Jim Duffy’s side, appearing in all 61 competitive matches staged since his arrival.

Forbes had been craving that sort of stability in his football career and admits he jumped at the opportunity to commit himself to the club until May 2018.

He told the Tele: “I’m absolutely buzzing with the two-year deal. I said to the Telegraph a wee while ago that I wanted to stay because I’ve enjoyed it since I’ve been here, so I was delighted.

“You could say coming to Morton has rejuvenated my career. I didn’t have a great time at Dunfermline, but since I’ve come here I’ve played every single game for a year and half.

"For me personally, the fact the contract is for two years is important, especially when you enjoy being somewhere and think you can kick on and do something.

“The two years gives you a bit of security and means you can build and plan ahead and focus on making the seasons bigger and better.

“I think maybe the club is moving in a new direction [by offering two-year deals] and trying to build on what we’ve achieved this season, coming up and establishing ourselves in the Championship.

“It could be seen as ambition by hoping to build on something for the future and keeping a team together for a while and trying to be successful with the same players.”

Manager Duffy also penned a two-year extension earlier this month, and Forbes says that was an important factor in his thinking.

The 27-year-old playmaker explained: “For me it was important to see the gaffer sign his two-year contract.

“He’s done a brilliant job at Morton and I really enjoy playing under him, so I was delighted to hear that he was signing as well.

“I’m sure the gaffer will be looking forward to trying to build on what we’ve achieved this season and trying to be even better next
season.”
