MORTON have added another friendly to their summer schedule and will now host Swansea City’s Under-21 team at Cappielow on Tuesday July 26.

The English Premier League club’s development squad will head north for a pre-season tour, which opens with a match against the Ton.
They then take on Falkirk, from whom they have signed a number of young players in recent times, on 28 July and end their trip north at Hamilton Accies on Sunday 31 July.

For the Ton, the clash will be played on the free midweek between League Cup group section ties against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park and Berwick Rangers in Greenock.

The meeting could see former Ton loan striker Alex Samuel make a return to Cappielow as an opposition player.

A news item on the Swans’ official website said: “Swansea City Under-21s will head north of the border in July to face three teams from Scotland as part of their 2016-17 pre-season.

“Gary Richards and Cameron Toshack’s development squad will face Scottish Championship sides Morton (July 26) and Falkirk (July 28), at Cappielow Park and Falkirk Stadium before ending the trip with a match against Premiership side Hamilton Academical at New Douglas Park (July 31).

“The Under-21s had a successful first season in their category one games programme, with victories over Arsenal, Newcastle and West Ham helping the young squad to a third place finish in Premier League Division Two before losing out to Aston Villa in the Play-Off semi-final in April.

“Jay Fulton, Stephen Kingsley, Botti Biabi and Ryan Blair joined the Swans from Falkirk’s youth ranks in recent seasons, while young striker Alex Samuel netted four goals during 30 appearances whilst on loan at Morton last season.”
