FRUSTATED Clyde gaffer Barry Ferguson insisted his side simply weren’t good enough in Tuesday night’s League Cup loss to Morton at Cappielow.

A Thomas O’Ware goal was all that separated the clubs on the night as the Ton picked up all three points a 1-0 victory in the Group H encounter.

But there was a significant gulf in terms of the teams’ performance levels, and former Rangers and Scotland midfielder Ferguson was less than impressed with how the Bully Wee showed up.

The 38-year-old told the Tele: “We weren’t good enough. I’m not happy. I thought we were disappointing and I’m disappointed with the performance after what we did on Saturday. I said to them that we have to get a level of consistency. We huffed and puffed a wee bit but I expect more from them.

“We never created much and that’s disappointing. I was frustrated because we could have put on a better show.

“So it’s back to the drawing board. I’ll have to go through a lot of things that I wasn’t too happy about.

“You could use excuses that it’s still pre-season — but I never used that excuse on Saturday, so I’m not going to use it now.”

The Broadwood boss has boosted his attacking complement by bringing in Morton fans’ favourite Peter MacDonald following his Cappielow exit at the end of last term.

The veteran hitman, pictured, now 35, played 70 minutes on his return to Greenock, and former Gers team-mate Ferguson expects him to make a valuable contribution once he gains match fitness.

He added: “Peaso still has a bit to go in terms of fitness. He’s a couple of weeks behind in terms of catching up with the boys, so we need to do a bit of work with him. But he’ll get there.

“There’s another two and a half weeks before the season really starts, so we’ve still got a bit of work to do with him.

“He was a young boy at Rangers when I was there and I’ve always kept a close eye on him. He’ll do well for us. We’ve got a younger team this year so it’s always good to have a bit of experience.”
