MORTON stalwart Thomas O’Ware harbours ambitions of reaching the play-offs this year after a terrific end to 2016.

Ton’s 1-1 draw with Renfrewshire rivals St Mirren on Saturday set the seal on an excellent first half of the campaign for the Greenock men.

It left them third in the Championship table and stand-in skipper O’Ware is now determined to go one better than last year’s fifth-placed finish by securing a place in the end of season shootout for a spot in the Premiership.

He told the Tele: “I want us to finish in the play-offs.

“Last year we had just come up and it was a great first season, but we know we could’ve done a lot better.”

O’Ware and his team-mates have suffered from last-gasp goals on several occasions this season so he admits he was delighted when the boot was on the other foot as they grabbed a draw late on Saturday.

Recalling some of the last-gasp sickeners from earlier in the campaign, he said: “We had the Falkirk game, St Mirren and Falkirk again away so it’s pleasing for that aspect that we’re managing to hold on.

“Things are going our way just now.”

WINGER Scott Tiffoney has returned to Morton after an emergency loan with League Two outfit Clyde, while defender John Tennent has been allowed to leave Cappielow following the expiry of his contract.
