MORTON kid Ruaridh Langan says he was honoured to lead out his team for a charity match in memory of Dunoon teenager Asten Jones on Sunday.

Asten, 18, tragically passed away in May following a car accident, and Ton kitman Andy Bryan, who is a friend of her family, arranged a fundraising fixture between a Ton select outfit and Dunoon Amateurs.

Langan, skipper of the Morton under-20s side, was pleased the club went over to play in a ‘special’ game.

He told the Tele: “We went over for Asten, it was the right thing to do in the circumstances as a memorial to Asten and her family. It was good for the club to show their respects and even playing the game, everyone had the family name on the back of their tops and I feel like it meant something.

“It was certainly different from a normal game, it felt like a special game for the family and we were happy to be part of that.”

Langan starred in defence for Ton, managed by first-team gaffer Jim Duffy, but still somehow managed to bag himself an impressive four goals in the process.

He added: “I’ve got no idea how I managed to score four goals, to be honest. Last season I didn’t get much chance to play centre-mid for the 20s and that’s where I score goals from.

“I know I can score goals but it’s been a bit difficult if I’m playing a bit more defensive. But I had a feeling I’d score in Dunoon, I told a few of the boys I’d score from a corner, thankfully that happened.

“I’ve got no excuses for not scoring goals now!”
