MORTON loan signing Ross MacLean is looking forward to a fresh start with the Championship side.

The Motherwell winger signed a year-long loan deal at Cappielow on Wednesday, taking Morton’s first team squad up to 16 players.

The 21-year-old was the second signing of the day for manager Ray McKinnon, after also bringing in former Partick Thistle goalkeeper Ryan Scully.

MacLean has made 22 first-team appearances for the Premiership outfit, including scoring a late extra-time winner against Ross County to send them through to the quarter-finals of the Betfred Cup.

After meeting Ray McKinnon, the youngster, who made his debut back in 2015 under former Motherwell manager Mark McGhee and has a year left on his deal at Fir Park, is looking forward to a clean slate with the Championship side, and as he looks for more first team action.

He told the Tele: “I’m delighted to be here. I was on holiday last week and my agent said there was interest from Morton to bring me in on loan.

“I was delighted with that, when I got back from holiday Ray McKinnon phoned me and asked me to come in and spoke to me.

“I have a year left on my contract, I signed a three-and-a-half year contract when McGhee was there.

“I felt that it was a fresh start for everyone as well when I went into the club, it felt like there was a buzz about the club.”
