ROBERT Thomson is hoping for a fresh start this season at Morton as he looks to put an injury-disrupted campaign behind him.

The forward, who graduates today after finishing his fire risk engineering degree, is currently recovering after surgery on a groin injury, which plagued the striker throughout last season.

He’s now working his way back to full fitness and the 25-year-old is hoping an injury-free campaign will go a long way to improving his form for the Greenock side.

Thomson first tweaked his groin back in September last year and played through the pain until January, before the club realised it was more serious an injury than first thought.

He then faced a spell on the sidelines and returned for Ton’s last six games of the season, but wasn’t fully fit and struggled to get back up to full speed.

Thomson is hoping he’ll be rid of his groin injury once and for all and, having completed his studies, the forward says his full focus is on Morton.

He told the Tele: “I really enjoyed Morton last year and I’ve obviously got a year left on my deal.

“But it’s been a bit stop-start and it’s been a wee bit frustrating with my injury.

“I don’t think I could have played as well as I could have throughout the year and it’s taken me a bit of getting used to getting back to full-time after being part-time.

“I’m looking forward to having a year to concentrate on my football knowing that I do have the fall back of my degree.”
