GREENOCK Wanderers take on local county rivals Whitecraigs at Fort Matilda on Saturday as their new season kicks off.

Last season Wanderers lost to them away and won the home fixture in an exciting match won by the last kick by full-back Frizzel.

Both sides were relegated along with four other sides to the new National Division 4.

Not much is known about the visitors at this stage but it will be a stiff early start to the season.

In last week's friendly against Ardrossan, Wanderers were short of players in the front row.

Hoodless makes a welcome return but his partner on the other side of the scrum, Graham, is still unavailable.

Former captain Robb should also be available to bolster up the scrum.

In the backs Harrison's injury has cleared up and the returning Knapton may struggle to make the starting line- up.

Wanderers will have to up their game to win this tussle.

A poor start last week saw them 10 points down in the first eight minutes.

With the buzz around the 150th year of the club it is hoped a decent crowd will help the home side to victory.

Meanwhile, the 2nd XV do not start their league campaign till next week.

On Sunday there are lots of games across the age groups. The Minis P4-P7 are at Cambuslang.

The U13s face Paisley at East Kilbride, the U14s take on GHK at Whitecraigs, the U15s tackle Paisley at Fort Matilda and the U16s play against Kilmarnock.

The Ladies, after their fine win at Oban last week, have a home game v Wigtonshire.

Young Elisha Hope played a big part in the win by converting all her kicks at goal.

History will be made by Wanderers Ladies as they put out three sides this weekend, a first in the ladies game in Scotland.

The 2nds are at Marr and the U12s at Strathendrick.
