WANDERERS made the long trip to Stewartry and failed to record a first victory of the season.

They were well beaten by the home side after another lacklustre performance.

Stewartry quickly showed their intentions with an early penalty and a try and led 8 - 0 after five minutes minutes.

Their mobile pack and speedy backs were too much for the Wanderers. A further try from a great kick to the corner and swift hands from the backs and it was 13 - 0 after 15 minutes.

Missed tackles allowed the home number eight to run from inside his own half to score under the posts - 20 - 0.

Wanderers then finally had a spell of the play and good work by the forwards allowed Robb to score - 20 - 7.

However, from a lineout in the 36th minute the home side's number eight barged over for another try to make the score 27 - 7.

In the last play of the half Stewartry's centre ran through some poor tackling to score and it was 34 - 7 at half-time.

In the second half the home side were again quickly into their stride and had an early try disallowed for offside. But from a lineout in Wanderers' 22 the home hooker dived over to score, and it was 41 - 7.

Wanderers finally had a very good spell of scoring two quick tries to bring the score to 41 - 17.

Injuries to Frizzell and Graham allowed an injection of fresh legs, giving Wanderers another good spell but tries from the home side continued making the final score 67 - 17.

Wanderers worked hard to secure a single bonus point for scoring four tries but they left themselves open for the counter attack which the home side took full advantage of.

Wanderers have a lot to work on before the home game next week against table toppers Garnock.

The 2nd XV lost  17 - 10, also at Stewartry; the 3rd XV lost to Clydebank 36 - 7. The under-16s won 50-0 against Renfrewshire Raiders, the under-15s beat Bishopton 52-38 and the Under-13s lost 87 - 35 at home to Dumfries.
