TRIATHLETE twins from Inverclyde Athletics Club Olivia and Charlie Lyne represented Scotland at the Scottish Inter Regional Championships (IRC) 2023.

The event took place in conjunction with the British Triathlon Super Series Grand Final held at Mallory Park, Leicestershire.

This was a second ‘Scottish Vest’ for Olivia, having gained selection last year, however, in line with ‘keeping it in the family’, she was now joined by twin brother Charlie.

The IRC provides a great opportunity for some of the best girls and boys from each of the ten English Regions, Scotland, Wales and Jersey to compete against each other in the TriStar 2 (age 11-12) and TriStar 3 (age 13-14) age groups.

The young athletes take part in both individual competition and mixed team relay format over two days.

In the Tristar 2 (11 -12yrs) female aquathlon, all four Scottish athletes progressed to the A final, with Olivia delivering a strong performance to finish in second place.

The Tristar 2 open aquathlon A final came down to a nail-biting sprint right to the finish line involving the top five athletes separated by just seven seconds, with Charlie demonstrating some smart racing tactics to finish third.

Charlie also had an added bonus of finishing third in the newly introduced transition challenge.

When the competition was finished and the individual and transition scores were combined, the Scotland team finished in a well-deserved third place behind the South West in second and the North East taking top spot.
