Greenock parkrun, event number 439, March 9 2024

THE wisest of all Greenock run directors told participants that he had checked the weather forecast for the morning - and how wrong that forecast was.  

No runner expected a free shower when the waves came over the railings just before they crossed into the finish funnel.

A total of 133 people ran, jogged or walked the course, of whom 17 were first timers, and eight runners recorded new PBs. Representatives of 15 different clubs took part.

Four runners achieved milestones: 25th, Ced Chesterman; 100th, Helen Crawford; 200th, Moira McCluckie; 250th, Francesca Lowrie.

Escaping the free shower was first male, Kyle Johnstone (16:59) closely followed by Andrew McCall (17:02) and Chris Mooney (17:52) completed the top three males.

For the ladies, Garscube Harriers' Laura Devine completed the course in 22:11;   Kirkintilloch Olympians' Marina McCallum was second in 23:20; and in a time 23:51, Sinead McLaughlin, also representing Garscube Harriers, completed the top three.
