MORTON boss Dougie Imrie says the fine margins of the Championship were on full show in Tuesday night's score draw against Ayr United.

The Ton boss saw his side concede an equaliser late on in the first half when the hosts' Anton Dowds saw his header hit the crossbar and just cross the line.

Imrie said: "The ball hits the underside of the bar and it creeps under. On another day it might've bounced off the line and back out.

"That's how tight the fine margins are in the division. It'll be the same next season and the season after that too.

"That's because every team is evenly matched barring maybe Dundee United whose budget swamps everyone.

"There isn't a lot between the other teams, even though I know that we've got the lowest budget in the division and we're punching well above our weight.

"Game after game, this group of players give their all. I'd love to have a budget like Dundee United's but unfortunately we don't and we've got to go with what we've got, so I've got to go and find players who give 110 per cent, which nine times out of ten, we get.

"It's been a tough season for them, mentally and physically. They got battered at the start, they've then gone on a run that was always going to come to an end and then in the last eight games it's been mistakes that've cost us.

"But we'll go again in a tough game tomorrow against Dundee United."
