GREENOCK oche aces Michael Malone and Mark Barilli are gearing up to play in the UK Open.

The international competition will be played at Butlins, Minehead, from 7 to 9 March.

Only 138 players from all over the world will battle it out over eight stages to be shown live on ITV 4.

Professional darts players, including Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor will be competing for the top title.

Mark qualified based on his ranking in the PDC Order of Merit while Michael won a qualifier in Coatbridge.

Michael also reached the quarter-finals of the Scottish Open last month at the Normandy Hotel, Renfrew, in not only the singles but also the doubles with Evander Stevenson and the triples event with Evander and Katie Laird.

This was a fantastic achievement for Michael as there were 1,300 players and he was eventually beaten in the quarter-final of the singles by professional player Robbie ‘Kong’ Green who eventually won the tournament.

Meanwhile, Mark has been doing very well recently, having gained his PDC card and receiving sponsorship.
