INVERCLYDE tennis star Anna Daisley has been crowned Paisley and District tennis champion. The Fort Matilda club junior won the women’s title in convincing style at the David Lloyd club in Renfrew.

Anna, who is also a member of Strathgryffe Tennis Club, later won the mixed doubles title, partnering Holly’s brother Scott to a final win over the David Lloyd pair of Tony Williamson and Jacqueline Fullerton. Anna, from Greenock, and still only 15-years-old, was the hot favourite to retain her women’s title which she did without loss of a game against Renfrew player Holly Docherty. Kilmacolm player Alexander Wilson missed out on the junior 18 and under title after losing in straight sets against Lee Wishart.

Over 100 players competed in the 78th year of these popular championships. Watching them were local Paisley veterans Jimmy Wilson, winner of the men’s title in 1949, and Alex Culloch, who was men’s doubles champion 60 years ago and who won the men’s singles title on 10 occasions.
