MORTON will play Europa League hopefuls St Johnstone in Peter Weatherson's testimonial match at Cappielow on Saturday 13 July.

The fixture had originally been arranged for Tuesday 16, but Allan Moore's side will now take on former Ton man Chris Millar and co a few days earlier in a game designed to mark a decade of service by Weatherson.

The frontman moved to Morton in June 2003 in a 30,000 transfer from Queen of the South and scored 122 goals in 332 starts and 67 substitute appearances during his 10 years at Cappielow.

The 33-year-old, who recently joined Annan Athletic as a player/coach, told the Tele: "It's now confirmed that my testimonial will be against St Johnstone on 13 July.

"They're going for Europe after finishing third in the SPL - so that makes them the third best team in Scotland.

"I was team-mates with Chris Millar for five years.

"He's a good lad and we've kept in touch. He's had a good career and he's still going strong.

"It'll be good to share the day with him.

"I'll also be inviting ex-team-mates along and all my family will be coming up from Newcastle too.

"I'll be taking part and hoping to play the majority of the game, but I also think it's only fair to let the teams play it as a competitive friendly so it will be taken seriously too.

"It should be a great occasion."

Meanwhile, the club have confirmed that season ticket holders will now gain free admission to the friendly against English League One outfit Rotherham on Tuesday 9 July instead of the meeting with the Perth side.
