JORDAN Allan is expecting his old pro-youth rival Declan McManus to prove a big hit at Morton this season.

Aberdeen striker McManus and former Dundee United kid Allan have lined up against each other on numerous occasions over the years.

According to Allan, his new Morton team-mate was consistently impressive and always likely to grab a goal or two.

And he believes Andy Barrowman and Stefan McCluskey will have a job on their hands trying to displace McManus when they return from injury.

The 19-year-old, who is suspended for today’s match against Stranraer, told the Tele: “Dec’s been great since he came in. He seems as if he’s really enjoying himself and he’s doing well.

“I’ve known Dec since my days with Dundee United; I’ve played against him for years.

“He was the year above me, but when I went full-time, he was playing with the Aberdeen 20s.

“In most of the games, he’d get a goal or two and if he’s not scoring goals, he’s setting up goals.

“Sometimes he’d drop off and feed the other striker the ball through.

“He’s a good player and I’ve got a lot of respect for him.

“He will be a big asset to our team and will provide a challenge to big Andy Barrowman and Stef McCluskey for a place in the team.”
