ROBBIE Crawford opened his Morton account against Airdrie on Saturday — and then revealed he hopes to see his name on the scoresheet on a regular basis this season.

The 21-year-old Gourockian demonstrated a real nose for goal when he followed up inside the box to slam home what turned out to be Ton’s winner against Gary Bollan’s struggling side.

Crawford says it is important that midfielders continue to chip in with their fair share of goals if the club are to be successful, and he is hopeful he can weigh in with a few more before his loan ends in January.

He told the Tele: “It was a bit of a poacher’s goal, but I’ll take it. It was a good move from the boys and Andy [Barrowman] has caused them a lot of problems and managed to put it into my path.

“Fortunately I’ve managed to slot it in. It was a good to score the winner, and a little bit of a strange feeling actually.

“I believe I’m capable of scoring goals from midfield. I do feel it’s something I can offer. I scored quite a few for Rangers and had a few shots today. I was actually hoping for more goals.

“I like to get forward and link up with the strikers and contribute with a few goals. It’s important that we get the midfielders supporting the strikers and taking chances as well. But the most important thing was that the team got a win today.

“We played well in patches against Alloa last week and in the second half today, but we knew we needed to improve after the first half.

“Everyone was frustrated at half-time and you have that feeling it might be one of those days, but we stuck together.

“We upped the tempo and I thought we created a lot of chances and could have scored a few more in the end.

“We deserved the win.”
