INCENSED Morton boss Jim Duffy slammed referee Alan Muir for failing to award his side what he felt were two unquestionable penalties.

Whistler Muir waved away appeals for fouls on Declan McManus and Lee Kilday as well as ignoring handball claims made against Kieran Miller and former Ton captain Stewart Greacen.

Furious Duffy, who discussed the decisions with the official after the match, insisted Muir had badly misjudged two of the decisions.

The Ton gaffer admitted his side’s first-half display was unsatisfactory but felt they had done enough in the second period to have claimed a point.

He fumed: “I think they were very contentious decisions. Two weren’t even debatable. I think one maybe was debatable.

“And they were pivotal moments that could have turned the game, particularly Declan’s. If you get a penalty and score to get it back to 2-2, you have the momentum.

“I couldn’t believe it when he didn’t give it. I mean, everybody in the ground thought it was a penalty.

“He knocked it past him [Greg Fleming] one way and went the other way and had his trailing leg is caught. To me, it was 100 per cent a penalty.

“I really don’t know why he hasn’t given that. If he thinks there’s no contact, surely he should book the player for diving?

“Then the one with Lee Kilday after that. He’s gone to play the ball and the boy just clips him on his heels.

“The other one is a handball. I understand that people will say it [Robbie Crawford’s cross] was close to him, but the boy’s hands were in an unnatural position.

“It’s not even about the law of averages. It’s about decision-making and getting them right — and I felt he got them wrong.

“I spoke to the referee after the game. It wasn’t a heated discussion, no. He gave his explanations and they weren’t ones I was in agreement with. At the end of the day, there’s nothing you can do about it. That’s their decisions and you have to accept it. It’s not often I like to come out and complain [about referees] but it’s very frustrating.

“I just think it was really harsh on us. First half we were very poor and didn’t play anywhere near the level of performance in recent weeks, but we played very well in the second half.

“Although Stenny scored a goal early on, we pretty much dominated the match from then on in. But sometimes you don’t get the breaks and we certainly didn’t get them.

“We didn’t play well or do ourselves justice in the first half but I can’t be too harsh on them, because we definitely deserved more than what we got in the second half.

“We really pushed on and Stenhousemuir got behind the ball and blocked things and got in the right areas while we missed a few chances, so credit to Stenny for their attitude and work ethic. But from my point of view it was a real disappointment that we didn’t manage to take something away from the game.”
