AN overwhelmed Thomas O’Ware says it felt like Christmas came early as Morton were given the gift of a priceless three points at Dunfermline on Saturday.

Despite falling behind early in the second half, Ton staged a stunning fightback to come from behind and claim the win at East End Park through late goals from O’Ware and Declan McManus.

And the 21-year-old believes it is a victory the Cappielow club will point back to as a defining moment in their season should they have a successful League One campaign.

Grinning from ear to ear, O’Ware told the Tele: “At the end of the season, this could be one of our biggest wins.

“If we get anywhere or do anything this year, like finishing first or second, we’ll look back on this as a big three points, the same as Peterhead when we scrapped and dug in. We knew Dunfermline would start well after how we started when we played them last time, but we weathered the storm and had a wee 10-minute spell where we were unlucky.

“In the dressing room at half-time, we were saying let’s go out and do the same again because a draw’s not the worst [result].

“But they go a goal ahead. It’s not a great goal but they’ve scored it nonetheless and after that we’d have taken a draw here all day all long.

“It’s especially pleasing to win after going 1-0 down to a team that are also full-time, have good resources and haven’t lost or conceded a goal here all season.

“To score two goals in just over 10 minutes to win … it’s like Christmas. The boys are delighted.

“We know we’ve not played well at times this season and it’s not down to anyone else bar ourselves.

“We never performed well at home to Ayr last week, we know we weren’t good enough.

“But I thought everybody was terrific. There wasn’t one passenger.

“And I think the shape with the personnel was a lot more aggressive and stronger.” O’Ware sparked the comeback with a bullet header 11 minutes from time and credited a slight tweak to Joe McKee’s deliveries for his goal.

He explained: “We worked on set-pieces on Friday and I think the ones we are doing now are benefitting us a lot more.

“They’re suiting me better personally.

“I prefer the whipped ball in rather than the floated ball, which we’ve been doing a lot. I get a lot more joy attacking that whipped ball.

“I was actually close to getting on the end of two or three of them, but the boy [Lewis] Spence was holding me back and stuff.

“But with the last one there I made sure he was out my way, went and attacked it and scored.”
