IT is with complete surprise and maybe even shock that I begin this update with actual positive comments about our beloved Greenock Morton.

Firstly, once again Douglas Rae has come up trumps and hopefully silenced his doubters by bringing in Peter MacDonald and Ross Caldwell from Scottish Premiership teams.

Hopefully some more funds can be made available for an experienced midfielder and a dominant centre half which I am positive would lead to us going on to win the league title.

Secondly, anyone who attended Saturday’s win over Stenhousemuir will tell you that the second half performance of the players was a joy to watch. Some of the football was excellent and the only surprise was how the result was so close!

Unfortunately it wouldn’t be normal for me to not find some reason to be negative therefore I won’t disappoint.

The defending for both goals we lost was abysmal and in my opinion if we don’t sign someone we need to get Thomas O’Ware, pictured, and perhaps Michael Miller into central defence, otherwise we will continue to leak goals.

Ideally I would prefer to concentrate on the positives, so hopefully the boys can take Saturday’s second half performance with them to Ayr this weekend as we try to beat them at the third attempt this season.

John Gisbey, Greenock MORTON have been in need of another good goalkeeper and new defenders.

A 17-year-old couldn’t boss or command his penalty area, and it wasn’t fair to ask him to do so.

A team that lose to Spartans and concede three goals to Stirling Albion does not deserve promotion.

At times Morton’s defence have more holes than Rab C. Nesbitt’s famous white vest.
