Ton’s 2-0 win over pre-season title favourites Dunfermline Athletic was shown live by the regional Gaelic language channel at the weekend.

Chairman Mr Rae expects the financial reward to be minimal but believes the real benefit from the TV coverage is to be found in the boost it gave to the club’s profile.

He told the Tele: “The fact the match was shown [on BBC Alba] will only mean a small amount of money for the club.

“But I would have done it for nothing anyway, because getting the exposure was worthwhile, particularly if you win and play well. And I thought we came through very strongly in the second half.” A crowd of 1,446 was in attendance for the clash, down 488 on the previous meeting with the Pars in Greenock back in September.

The Cappielow chief put that reduced turnout down to the kick-off time rather than the fact the match was shown live on television, and also insisted the benefits still far outweighed any drawbacks.

He added: “I think the time maybe affected the crowd: 5.30pm is an awkward time. It cuts into the evening.

“It certainly wouldn’t have been my choice of time. But, as I say, all in all the exposure was worthwhile.”
