The 26-year-old forward put pen to paper on a short-term contract with the Ton last Friday, committing himself to the Cappielow club until January.

He comes to Greenock off the back of a spell with Dutch third tier outfit FC Lienden but started his career with one his country’s top sides, PSV Eindhoven.

Sabajo spent seven years working his way up through the ranks at the Philips Stadion — until his dreams of starring for the first-team were crushed by an anterior cruciate ligament tear in 2011.

But the Netherlands Under-17 cap is determined to resurrect his career and sees the move to Scotland as a great chance to get back on an upward trajectory after he was knocked off course by the injury.

He told the Tele: “I haven’t played at a level like this for a long time because I was injured for some time, so now I am back I want to try and do my best to get to the top again.

“I had a torn ACL and was out for a year and a half because of that injury.

“Then I played in the third division in Holland.

“Now I just want to come back and play good football.

“I was with PSV for seven years and came through from youth level to the second team and trained with the first-team for a long time, but never played an official game.

“After that I had my injury, and that was a disappointment in my career — because I wanted to play for the first team. But unfortunately it wasn’t the case.

“For me this is a chance to get higher up again. I just want to work hard and reach a certain level again and maybe play in the SPL [Scottish Premiership] one day.” Sabajo was unavailable for last Saturday’s Petrofac Cup loss to Dumbarton with Morton awaiting international clearance from the Dutch FA, which still hadn’t arrived at the time of going to press.

Manager Jim Duffy explained: “At this moment, we are still awaiting some confirmation from a Dutch club.

“We want that through because we want to have Romario available on Saturday, so we’ll be chasing it up.” On the signing front, Duffy hopes to finalise the loan capture of striker Denny Johnstone — who has trained with the club this week — from Birmingham City today.
