SIX members of Wemyss Bay Judo Club travelled to Wishaw to take part in the Judo 93 West Championships, all winning bronze in their categories.

First up on the day was Aedan McVey, taking part in his first ever competition.

The eight-year-old, although nervous, fought very well, scoring convincingly against his more experienced opponents to win the bronze medal.

Scott Crumlish returned after a long break from competition and originally struggled to find his form.

Once he settled into the technique, he won through to the bronze medal contest, a well-deserved medal in a new weight category for him.

Jade Rodgers was competing in a higher age band and weight category to what she is used to.

This category was then again combined with the one above, meaning she was facing some very strong girls.

This didn’t stop Jade fighting with great determination, throwing her opponent, holding and escaping from hold down. Overall it was a terrific performance.

Marieanne Dickson was next up to represent the club.

She was also facing some more experienced players but didn’t let it phase her. Marieanne showed she will be one to watch in this category.

Her contests were narrowly fought and she deserved her bronze medal.

Cammi Kerr had a long wait before competing, he was again the smallest in his category but always gives 100 per cent.

Cammi showed great improvement in his technique skills and worked hard for his medal against some very strong opponents.

Ezri Bradley was the club’s last competitor and had a difficult category. She won through her pool and lost her next fight to put her in the reprecharge, she also went on to win bronze.

Ezri and Cammi also travelled to Larkhall to compete in the Hibarikan Open Championships. They fought extremely well, again winning bronze.

The players are now all training for the Scottish Championships later this month.
